What is the AFCAT?
- The AFCAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted twice a year (usually in February and August) by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
- It’s the gateway to a wide range of exciting career opportunities as a commissioned officer in the IAF, spanning both Flying and Ground Duty branches.
Who can apply?
- Flying Branch: Unmarried graduates between 20 and 24 years of age.
- Technical Branch: Graduates (20-26 years) or postgraduates (20-28 years) in specified engineering disciplines.
- Non-Technical Branch: Graduates (20-26 years) in any discipline.
Exam Pattern:
- The AFCAT is a computer-based test with 100 multiple-choice questions divided into four sections:
- General Awareness (25 questions)
- Verbal Ability in English (25 questions)
- Numerical Ability (25 questions)
- Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test (25 questions)
- Duration: 2 hours
Selection Process:
- Written Exam (AFCAT): Shortlisting based on written exam scores.
- Air Force Selection Board (AFSB):
- Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating Test (OIRT) and Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT).
- Stage II: Psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interview.
- Medical Examination: Comprehensive medical evaluation for fitness.
